Hello everyone!

I wanted to share this absolutely mind-blowing mesocyclone that i caught today (July 14 2026)

Meso ID 128132 reached a phenomenal Meso Top of 17.3km, with the echo top at 12.4km! The rotation column literally punched right through the troposphere strainght into the stratosphere
Additional parameters:

Maximum extent:22.5km
Meso base:1.7km
Base wind speed: 11.2 m/s (40.5km/h)

This has to be an absolute record for Central Europe! What a monster...

Looks like that has been an error with the algorithm (most likely caused by radar aliasing). Values above 16 km are very, very rare for supercells in Germany and 17.3 km for the meso (with 18 dBZ Echo Top at 12.4 km) looks like an error to me.

However, very strong supercell with a powerful updraft and a huge mesocyclone. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the explanation, Guido! That makes a lot of sense.I kept tracking this cell after that. It maintained its strength for quite a while until it finally dissipated. Interestingly, right near the area where it vanished, two separate mesocyclones suddenly appeared. I even noticed that their combined size/extent was almost exactly the same as the original monster! It was truly fascinating to watch. Thanks for creating such an awesome tracking tool!
